Ionia County Community Mental Health has long been recognized state-wide for its outstanding efforts to divert persons with Mental Illness or a developmental disability from Jail.  This has been a result of a highly effective collaboration between law enforcement, district and circuit courts, and a network of other agencies and organizations.  Primary among all collaborators has been the Ionia County Prosecutor's office under the leadership of Prosecuting Attorney Ron Schafer.  Mr. Schafer's long standing commitment to achieve the best possible community and individual outcome for each case presented to the Prosecutor's office has resulted in positive outcomes for many persons whose primary issue has been a mental illness or developmental disability.  His staff has worked diligently to assure community safety while attempting to obtain appropriate treatment for persons who have become involved in the law enforcement system as a result of their psychological or developmental disability.  Prosecutor Schafer and the Ionia County Prosecutor's office has been an outstanding partner with Ionia Co. Community Mental Health being recognized as a leader in Jail Diversion and Services and are hereby recognized  Ionia CMH Authority Board of Directors as its 2013 "Friend of Mental Health" for Service Excellence.
