Basic Health & Medications

The basics of health as it perstains to mental health, including vital signs, medical emergencies, and infection control will be taught. Also learn the proper techniques to reduce errors in taking medications, knowing the different types of medications, and the five rights. Post test. Two day class. Class size limited to 12 participants.

January Gathering Talk: "Opioids. A Mother's Addiction Journey w/Katie Donovan"

After experiencing the addiction journey with her daughter Brittany, Katie left her marketing career, in order to focus on family recovery. Katie has dedicated her life to guiding others through the overwhelming process of finding quality treatment for substance abuse, coaching families through their own recovery, and as a consultant for the treatment industry. Katie is the Executive Vice President of the nonprofit FAN- Families Against Narcotics, on the Executive Committee for a Michigan Opiate Task Force Operation Rx, and a national speaker on addiction. Katie is a professionally trained and certified family recovery coach as well as an addictions recovery coach. Katie and her daughter Brittany also co-founded a blog about their journey at www.amothersaddictionjourney.com. Katie lives in Macomb Twp, MI.

January Gathering Talk: Trauma, what is it, and what do we do with it?

Children and Families Supervisor, will cover trauma, types of trauma, our responses and what to do next.

Recipient Rights

This training provides information on the essential rights of recipients of community mental health services, including abuse and neglect; confidentiality; informed consent; respect and dignity; restraint; seclusion; and incident-report writing.

Environmental Emergencies

Learn how to prevent crisis situations and manage those that arise. This training focuses on the responsibilities of maintaining a safe environment for people living in a community residential setting.

Learn how to protect yourself against diseases that can be trasmitted through the air, blood, and other routes. Free references to take home.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of person-centered planning and how to use it to assist consumers in attaining their goals.

Includes adult, child, and infant CPR as well as basic first aid training. Class size is limited to 10 participants. Other options available for renewals. Call: (616) 225-7055 and register with Norma.

$35.00/session $70 for both CPR & FA (Ground Training and Renewal) MUST PREPAY

January Gathering Talk: Bullying w/Anthony Ianni

Anthony Ianni, of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, is on a mission to eradicate bullying. At the age of 4, Anthony was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, which is on the Autism Spectrum. Despite bullies, adversity and numerous personal challenges Anthony worked hard and never gave up. Not only did he earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University in Sociology, he is the first known athlete with autism to play Big 10 basketball. Anthony has pledged his life and career to help those who face similar challenges.

(All attendees must be 14 or older, due to violence in Riley's story as well as stories she will be sharing of other students.) Riley Juntti will talk about the "13 Reasons Why NOT" program, her Netflix campaign for suicide prevention. She will provide tools and takeaways for addressing youth depression and suicidal ideation.
